Why Rest is Important at Our Retreats

colorado yoga retreats

Rest is key to optimal performance and overall health. Both mentally and physically. It’s all about balance. Did you know that adequate rest is one of the most effectives ways to maintain balance in all aspects of life? We have a little something called Sacred Silence that we weave into every retreat we host in hopes to inspire you to lean into rest just a little bit more.

Want to know a few ways to incorporate more rest into your everyday life? During all the ebbs and flows life will throw your way, our tips below will have you covered.

Start with five deep breaths

The human body is built to thrive in a series of short sprints. So taking a break, even for five deep breaths, can offer you the refresh you need to manage the rest of your day. Taking time to relax will stimulate your creativity, and inspire reflection time, allowing for more breakthroughs. Isn’t that the goal?

Start by sitting or standing, shutting down your eyes, and softening your shoulders a bit. Take a full inhale through your nose, really notice it. Then breathe out a nice slow exhale. Repeat as many times as needed.

Let your brain rest

Meditation can help your brain rest by actually shifting your brainwaves to a more relaxed state. These are often associated with deep focus and sleep, and we all know decent sleep is essential.

Meditating for just 8 minutes a day can provide a range of benefits including reduced stress, better emotional regulation, enhanced mood, and a greater ability to manage negative thoughts. Start with meditation apps like Open or Headspace Or join one of our many free monthly meditation challenges!

Minimize screen time

We all know we could benefit from less screen time mentally, emotionally, and physically. Reducing your screen time also reduces eye strain, decreases anxiety and stress, and enhances your emotional well being.

Start by waiting 5 or 10 minutes upon waking up before grabbing your phone. Or place your phone aside for a few minutes each night before hitting the sheets. Small steps lead to big wins!

At Rooted Renewal Wellness Retreats we encourage sacred silence and rest at each of our retreats for the reasons mentioned above and more. A place for you to unwind mentally and physically while still bringing so many benefits to the mind and body.
