How to Choose the Right Wellness Retreat

costa rica yoga retreats

Choosing the right wellness retreat can be a pivotal decision in your mental, physical, and emotional growth. These environments offer limited distractions to focus in on you and your goals, which we don’t often get in our daily routine of life.

However, with so many options available out there, (not to mention the investment required) it’s important to find a retreat that aligns with your goals, preferences, and needs.

So, how can you make sure you’re choosing the right retreat for you?

Step 1: Define Your Goals

  • Are you hoping to de-stress, find adventure, or deepen your yoga practice? Are you hoping for more mindfulness, fitness, or spiritual growth? Sit down with your journal and identify a few of your top priorities for what you’d like to get out of a retreat first.

Step 2: Consider the Location

  • Our environment plays a huge role in our experience on a retreat. Are you hoping to stay close to home so that you don’t have to invest in transportation? Maybe you’re drawn to tropical beaches, majestic mountains, or getting lost in the desert. You’ll want to pick a location that best aligns with your preferences, personal budget, and the length of time you can spend off work or away from home.

Step 3: Check out the Sample Agenda

  • If it’s not explicitly shown, ask the retreat hosts to provide a sample agenda. Some retreats emphasize down time and relaxation, while others provide ample opportunity for challenge and adventure. Are you looking for moments of solitude? Make sure what you’re signing up for is truly what you’re looking for out of a retreat experience, or check that they offer optional add-on’s and moments to decompress.

Step 4: Understand the Accommodations

  • Are you looking for something lower cost, more basic, and communal? Maybe the thought of someone snoring next to you sends a shiver up your spine, and you want to be sure you have your own room to decompress at the end of the day. Make sure that the accommodation you select is reflective of your budget and preferences for sleep and relaxation.

Step 5: Read Testimonials

  • Check in with previous attendees and read testimonials to gather insight about the retreat’s authenticity, quality, and overall experience. If you don’t know the hosts personally, you can ask for references too!

Finding the right retreat for you should be an exciting yet informed experience! Investing into yourself for a dedicated weekend can move the needle on personal growth and remove blocks that can be difficult to dive into with so many distractions of your every day routine.

Ask questions until you feel certain, and then show up ready to get inspired, rejuvenated, and blissed out by the retreat bubble!
