Wellness Retreats: 6 Pillars of Rooted Renewal
Just a quick search on Google and you will come across the endless amount of options when looking to book your next wellness retreat. We’ve been there. Especially if it’s your first one. From Vipassana to fitness-based retreats, the decision can be overwhelming.
If you’re reading this and you’re considering investing in a retreat experience with us, we’re so glad you’re here! In an effort to help distinguish what makes Rooted Renewal Wellness Retreats unique, we wanted to break down our six pillars of wellness. These pillars help guide how we design and tailor each experience providing a restorative and memorable experience for you.
Movement
The first pillar is movement. This one can seem a bit obvious. But here’s our perspective. We intentionally integrate varying degrees of movement into each retreat we host. Whether you need to move and release stagnant energy that is no longer serving you or you want the time and space to move your body outside, in nature. We’re here for that.
When it comes to movement, we like to think of our approach as a roller coaster. Typically in the mornings, we begin each day with a strength-building vinyasa flow. This class will get the blood pumping, provide mental clarity for the day, enhance overall mood and leave you feeling energized for the day ahead.
Each evening, we slow things down with a gentle and restorative Candlelit Yin class. This allows us to start preparing the body for bedtime. No screens, no Netflix binging. Just you, your mat and your breath. From here, we ease right into bed, supporting a restful night’s sleep.

2. Food
Nourishing the mind, body and soul through food is incredibly important to us. It’s how we live our lives beyond hosting retreats and want to provide that same experience to you. We prioritize partnering with holistic chefs, like Sweet Genevieves in order to curate healthy and delish meals that fuel the brain and body during our time together.
Prior to each retreat we work with you to determine your specific dietary preferences to ensure that we offer the foods that you prefer.
Here’s an example menu from some of our past retreats so that you can get a deeper look into the foods that we offer.
Breakfast
Coffee or tea
Organic fruit smoothies (typically using local ingredients based on location)
Gluten-free & dairy-free granola or smoothie bowls
Lunch
Superfood power bowls (pictured above)
Quinoa or rice base
Radishes
Purple sweet potato
Poached eggs
Microgreens
Beet dressing (made from scratch)
Dinner
Wild-caught salmon
Sauteed veggies
Power greens
These are simply examples. But if you have specific questions about the menus for our upcoming retreats, please reach out.
Another important element related to food that we always like to highlight is the intentionality of the time and space where we eat together. We understand that this can be a challenge for many when at home. So we make it a priority to always eat together. No distractions. We discuss highlights from the day, any emotions that came up, or just get a general sense for how our community is feeling. It’s honestly some of the most memorable parts from past retreats for me personally.
3. knowledge
This one is a favorite for me. We offer a number of workshops and sessions at each retreat around specific topics. We want you to leave feeling confident in the things that you learned while with us. For example, we offer a yoga 101 workshop that takes place usually on the third day. This time is where we like to get our hands dirty together. It’s an informal time where you can ask questions that are relevant to you and your yoga practice.
Want help figuring out that handstand? We got you! Want to learn better alignment for that triangle pose? This is your time. Whatever is on your mind, this workshop is where you learn new ways of building and improving your practice. Actionable tips and ideas that you can take back home with you.
These offerings are not only limited to yoga. At our Joshua Tree retreat in 2024, we hosted a workshop all about Human Design with local expert, Brit Capri. The possibilities are endless.
4. Connection
Connection is a byproduct of the energy and space that we aim to create with every retreat. It’s not forced, but rather nurtured. Of course, a big part of this is you. We strive to curate spaces that foster deep connection amongst our communities. Many of the individuals that we have had the honor of hosting in retreat, are still connected today. Many of whom are spread across the country. It’s why we intentionally make an effort to break bread together after each day’s happenings.
Not only are we speaking about connection with others. But we also want to support and enable a deeper connection with yourself. We prioritize time for rest and reflection in order to facilitate this.
If there is one thing we hope that you leave Rooted Renewal with, it’s a deeper connection with yourself and with others.
5. Rest
As mentioned in #4 above, we strive to support a deeper connection to yourself upon leaving a Rooted Renewal retreat. One of the main ways in which we help with this is by offering what we call SACRED SILENCE.
Sacred Silence is our way of structuring dedicated time each day to silence. Use it however you wish. That could mean journaling, napping, painting, meditating or going for a walk. No screens. Just intentional time to go inward.
Believe me when I say that some of the best naps of my life, came during sacred silence moments at Rooted Renewal. The last thing that we want is for you to return home feeling exhausted. We understand that travel mixed with socialization and daily movement can be a lot for folks.
Our goal is to strike the right balance. We want you to leave feeling recentered and rested but excited and motivated for what’s to come. Whatever that means for you.
6. Nature
Last but certainly not least is our effort of integrating nature into each of our retreats. Often this means planning a group hike or adventure nearby depending on location. It could mean a nightly sunset walk. Last year, we even set up group surfing lessons during our Costa Rica retreat.
It’s incredibly important that we offer the opportunity for each of our communities to connect with the environment around them. Especially if it’s someone’s first time in a particular location.
We strongly believe that nature is our best teacher. By offering opportunities to get outside, we hope to instill a sense of curiosity in our communities.
